The batter is often described as crunchy and well-drained, ensuring a satisfying texture without excessive grease. Many rave about the extraordinary value for money, with a full meal costing around £9.50 and delivering on both taste and portion size. The community appreciation for the staff is evident, with many reviews noting the friendly service and willingness to go above and beyond, such as holding open the door for patrons. Most customers leave with smiles and praises, ready to return again and again.
While the excellent quality of food earns high marks, some patrons express frustration with wait times, as the shop can get quite busy, especially on Fridays. The cash-only payment is also a common point of inconvenience, leading to a few disappointed customers who weren’t prepared. Despite the occasional surge of customers, which may cause a bustling atmosphere inside, some diners lament the resulting atmosphere lacking a bit of calm. Nonetheless, these concerns are typically minor compared to the overwhelming praise for the food.
Excellent fish and chips, great value and served hot and fresh. Very busy shop, customers were queuing out the door but service was quick and organised. Highly recommended. Perfectly cooked crisp, thick cut chips and a good sized piece of cod well cooked in a nice crunchy batter, well drained and not greasy. Good sized portions and great value for money - £9.50 (cash only) for cod, chips and mushy peas. Much better than some supposed ‘award winning’ chip shops I have visited.
very quick service, very busy (people queuing outside shop), great food and will be going again!!
We're lucky to have this chippy in our local community. Always very good and today they went out of their way to serve us, something that many other places wouldn't do. Really appreciated so many thanks to the guy who cooked our chips!
I see someone in another review say that the customer service was poor. In my opinion that's a reflection on the way they treat staff, I've been coming here since I was a child and they're so pleasent. Name another place where the staff rush out to hold the door open for you? Amazingly well priced, friendly staff, good portion sizes and the list goes on. I always have a beef burger and spam fritter with chips and curry sauce. There is a reason they were voted best chipshop in Reading. The row of shops where they're located also have some of the longest running businesses in the Whitley area, all sorts of pets next door and top cut 2 doors down. Not a single local person would have a bad thing to say about those businesses. 5 star everything from this place!
They had only just opened at 5 and the sausage and chips were super fresh. These are the best chips I've tasted in a long time. The staff are very friendly. I highly recommend this business, this is the standard of food that all chip shops should strive to be like. PERFECT Thank you
I have been going here for many years. Great chippy, always delicious. Definitely recommend.
